Dry brushing to reduce cellulite and tighten skin. Does it work?

Kelly Lamoreaux

What is dry brushing?

It's just as it sounds.  Dry brushing involves using a natural bristled brush to brush the skin in a circular motion while the skin is dry.

What are the benefits of dry brushing?  Proponents of dry brushing make the following claims:

1. Exfoliates dead skin and creates softer skin.  Dry brushing is considered one of the best ways to  exfoliate your skin and you will find it offered at many spas.

2. Stimulates the lymphatic system.  We have lymph vessels that run just below the skin and proponents of dry brushing claim that regular dry brushing will stimulate normal lymph flow and help the body detoxify itself.

3. Reduces cellulite and helps tighten skin. The truth is that there is very little research to back up this claim but I have seen it work on not only myself but others.  It may not work for everyone.  My thought is that it isn't hurting anything to give it a try.  If nothing else, you will walk away with some seriously soft skin.

4. Improves circulation.

How do you dry brush?

First, you need to make sure that use a natural bristled brush.  I found mine on amazon.

Its recommended that you dry brush twice a day, once in the morning and then at night. You will be shedding dead skin so you will want to stand in a shower or bath tub.   Start with dry skin.  Next, start on your legs or arms first using a circular motion with medium pressure and then work your way towards your heart.  Then shower or bath to rinse off the exfoliated skin.  I like to use coconut oil as a lotion after I dry brush.

I have seen really great results with dry brushing and I hope you do too!  Give it a try for 6 weeks and see if you notice any changes. Its non-invasive, inexpensive, and really good for you!
